"Borey gallery has already become a historic spot, as St Petersburg new art has demonstrated itself here from the very beginning of perestroyka. However, today persons, who are very exquisite in their art show their works here and attend the gallery, though with no more useless pathos. There is a caf? in the gallery, which is as active and full of art, as the gallery halls, and during the days when there are no show openings, it’s even more active. The caf? is situated in a brick grotto. There are tables, at which people of unhackneyed appearance eat, drink, or simply talk without any aggressiveness at all. They are people of different ages, with different occupations and with different degrees of sobriety. Tatiana cooks for them and lays the table. Boris Borsch, an artist, and me also come here and eye Tatiana with deepest love. I cannot tell you at once what exactly we like in her. At first sight it seems that there are no effective peculiarities. But you immediately admit a natural necessity of her presence in this very place at this very time. Maybe, she would have made the same impression in any other place. It was later when we noticed her sculpturesque clarity and even flatness, despite her vivid femininity. To make it short, we decided to paint her portrait. Some of my beloved artists, whom I call “desperate artists”, gathered in my studio, and we painted Tanya’s portraits in several sessions.
Tatiana Ponomarenko, who is the owner and a true symbol of Borey gallery, allowed us to make an exposition of Tatiana’s portraits painted by us in the hall adjacent to the caf?, where we found Tatiana as an object of our desperate painting exercises." As a talented artist, Anatoly Zaslavsky has a sharp eye and artistic intuition, which didn’t let him down again while he was choosing a model for his desperate painting exercises. Our Tatiana starred in the latest motion picture of Bakur Bakuradze “Okhotnik” (Hunter) which was included into the Cannes Film Festival program.
