«The show presents works made within the “Compulsory Landscape” project. Twenty-six artists were suggested painting one and the same view opening from the balcony of a flat near Chyornaya Rechka. Artists, presenting main trends of today’s St Petersburg painting art participated in the show: the ones who kept leftist LOSH’s artistic way of thinking, representatives of former underground and a new generation, influenced by the former and the latter. A publication accompanying the exhibition describes main features of these trends. Besides, the text gives detailed verbal description of the opening view and descriptions of twenty of the works created. An observer gets a chance to understand how different artists transform one and the same nature. We analyzed how an artist copes with an unconventional compositional challenge and which of his qualities, inclinations he reveals. This experience provided us with an opportunity to reflect on what a landscape is for the moment, which function it performs, what is an artist’s major attitude towards nature». Show participants:
