«Hello! I’m Yuri Nikiforov (Colonel). Mainstream audience knows me better as a non-figurative artist working with material in a rough manner. As the issue is presentation of a figurative series, I’d like to say a couple of words about a simple human incentive, about how much I love summer, sun, life and women’s relaxed bodies luxuriating in the warm sunshine; I want to absorb all this joy, live it through, leave it inside myself for the period of “long foul winter”. But as one can judge by result, there’s something else coming from elaborated impressions, which is more associated with my personal world perception. From the very start I should warn you that I don’t paint “directly” from nature. Using visual memory, “sense of the body” and long-term practice in (formal) painting, I comparatively easily come at plastic generalizations, and when it’s necessary to strengthen imagery, I use various transformations of primary objects. The works offered to a visitor’s view are united in one whole block by theme, but they differ in the form of plastic designs, chosen to fulfill particular tasks in each work. There are around two dozens works in total in the series, and maybe not all of them can be presented in the small hall of Borey gallery. Naturally, for me this series is an entertainment, a rest taken from serious works, plastic conversion of impressions from sunny nonsense made of light and short Northern summer joy. However, who knows, sometimes a good trifle is of great worth, especially for those having an eye for plastic discoveries».
