This project is realized with support of Society named after Theodor Heuss, Foundation named after Robert Bosch and "MitOst" Union, in partnership with Scientific Information Centre “Memorial” (St Petersburg).

The exhibition touches upon the issue of transformations, which came along in the society since GULAG was in function. It’s interesting to see how people treat this past. How the premises of the former camp is used. What happened to former huts of special forced migrants. What is a barbed wire: a symbol of a man’s life tragedy or just a good means of one’s garden protection against self-invited guests? It all tells us about the present rather than the past.

This photo show’s focus is modern age, life in small far-away towns and villages, where GULAG often was the only reason for the fact of their appearance.

The photos were made during “Memorial” expeditions.

The exhibition includes both static and moving audio-visual objects. It is planned to demonstrate the accompanying video.
