Alexander Vladimirovich Yaskevitch. He was born in Leningrad in 1945 to a family of theatre actors. His mother M.I.Kraindel worked as an actress in today’s Baltiysky Dom theatre, his father V.Yaskevitch was an actor and director in Estrada theatre. Besides school and football, he liked painting and attended a school of art. After finishing it he entered Theatre Institute, N.P.Akimov’s course, but in the silliness of his tender years allowed himself a wicked remark addressed to the master in the company of Tovstonogov’s and Heifits’ sons. This remark reached Akimov, and he expelled them from the Institute. His mother, who knew Akimov very well, didn’t turn to him and decided that the son should go to the army. After 3 years of service he becomes a student again, but now to the Academy named after Mukhina. He paints a lot in the style of Medieval painting. In the prime of Leningrad television he starts to work as an artist. And from the very start he proves his individuality and talent. He is entitled to make the best teleplays as an art director. Among his outstanding works is a play with Maurice Bejart, “Othello” with Atlantov, “Gulliver’s Travels”, “Don Giovanni or Love for Geometry”, “Elektra”, “Dubrovsky”, “Ivan Pavlov”. One of his biggest works is a telethon devoted to the Chernobyl disaster, and a related play “Sarcophagus” was put up. He painted a lot of avant-garde works, participated in the artists’ society “War Elephants”. His works are kept in the museum of Jewish art in Lithuania. Besides painting, he also wrote plays, poems and ballads.
