Gennady Cozel & Robin. Project “AGATHE” Creations In the halls of the gallery | | | | | | | | | | | | — Is your father painter? — a governess in a kinder-garden knew an answer, so she just gave pieces of coloured cardboard to the father, saying: — Make us 20 migrant birds by the children’s festival! Draw, cut — and we will sew them to caps. … Father and son evaluated paper trimmings higher than ready-made objects. They gave birds to the kinder-garden with a light heart, but their flat was filled more and more with feathers of coloured paper and cardboard. The paper was mercilessly spilled with coffee, crumpled, cut and sometimes just torn and glued with plaster. And so boa and pirate schooners, six-legged chickens in Budeny-hats flying to the Moon were born. And guests couldn’t distinguished works by the father, member of the Artistic Union of Belarus Gennady Kozel, from those by his son, 5-years old Robert. When the younger daughter Agathe was born, it became impossible to paint with oil in the one-roomed flat. The smell of solvent is obviously unhealthy for baby-girls. At first the idea to work in graphics, sculpture and to make collages seemed unserious for a conservative painter. But Robert created joyfully side by side — he draw with gouache, acrylic colours and anything else on the glued newspapers (material was advised him by the father). And then, the father himself began to play with newspaper graphics. Artist is free by definition. Each artist is afraid of loosing his Creative Freedom in the case he becomes a father of a family, a part of any staff, a military man or something of the kind. When a graduate of the Minsk Academy of Fine Arts cut a dozen of migrant birds after a long pause in his creativity, he didn’t know that in the seeming emptiness a new creative impulse has been born — an impulse from which all the world was composed. Children found this fact much before the contemporary art has done it. So, now Gennady and Robert have the same desire — true equality of children and adult creativity. |
